Every year, the Pantone Color Institute’s colour experts analyse design, film, food, fashion, art and entertainment as well as materials, travel, sports and technology, to arrive at a colour of the year. They analyse and forecast global colour trends and are recognised around the world as the leading source of color information. This year the Pantone color of the year has been announced and it’s Pantone 18-3838 – also known as ultra violet.
The ultra violet hue has been described by the Pantone Color Institute as “dramatically provocative and thoughtful” which “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future”.
They continue stating, “As individuals around the world become more fascinated with color and realize its ability to convey deep messages and meanings, designers and brands should feel empowered to use color to inspire and influence. The Color of the Year is one moment in time that provides strategic direction for the world of trend and design, reflecting the Pantone Color Institute’s year-round work doing the same for designers and brands.”
The color of the year is a huge influential role in dictating trends for the year to come, so expect to see a lot of purple in 2018!
