Are you after some unique and creative elements for your business cards? Then you’ve come to the right place! We have some fun ideas that will help you stand out from the crowd.
Firstly, and for anyone who is still on the fence, business cards are a must whether an individual or company wants to promote their offerings. And as an extension of your business, you need to make sure your business cards showcase you in the best possible light to your clients and prospects.
Now you’re probably aware that the variety of cards available are endless in terms of stock, design, shape and finish — but as promised, today we are going to take a closer look at some options that are quite different from your standard business card.
Let’s see how you can stand out from the pack…
Paper Stock
We always recommend a heavier stock for business cards. This is because heavier weighted paper feels good in your customer’s hands and exudes ‘quality.’ Recycled, textured or uncoated stocks can really offer a point of difference!
Here at The Print Group Australia, our standard can vary from 310gsm to 420gsm art board. Though if you would like to explore some different options, premium paper stocks offer another avenue to showcase quality and professionalism.
Card Size
The standard business card size is 90mm x 55mm, but you can really have whatever size you like!
Some opt for a slim-line business card size which is still rectangular but smaller than 90mm x 55mm. Round cornered business cards, square business cards, folded business cards or any other uniquely shaped business cards certainly grab the right attention and are often worth the few extra dollars you spend!
Die-Cutting
Die-cutting is a great way to have your business card steal the spotlight.
This method cuts your business card to any custom shape or size you like. Below is a preview of some basic die-cutting options for your business cards, but really your options are as big as your imagination.
Cello Glazing
Cello glazing is a common finishing option for business cards.
It’s available in gloss or matt and offers a professional look and feel by adhering a thin sheet of film using heat and pressure.
It also has a smooth, silky feeling and brings added protection and durability to your business cards that is quite difficult to remove (keeping them safe and sound wherever they end up!).
Some people opt to leave the back of their cards with no cello glaze as this does make it easier to write notes or, decide not to have any cello glaze for a more organic, uncoated look on the entire business card. The choice is yours, but we will say that the matt cello glaze is a must if you are looking at Spot UV options. On that note…
Spot UV
Spot UV is a technique where varnish is applied to a design element of your print piece then dried using an ultraviolet light.
When applied to your business card, over your logo or used in a design element on the card, it creates a smooth, glossy effect that is quite striking!
Foiling
Foiling is a unique way to add sophistication to your business cards.
It is a specialised technique whereby a thin film of metallic or foil is impressed onto a document using a die (or stamp). Often used in conjunction with embossing it really creates elegant, eye-catching results that simply cannot be replicated using standard printing!
Embossing
Embossing is when you create an impression or imprint on the surface of your business card in the shape or form of a design, decoration, pattern or logo.
It raises the surface of the finished product, creating an elegant, professional look and feel. When combined with foiling, it can certainly make a statement.
